Ian Macdonald is a chartered psychologist who graduated with Honours from Brunel University in London in 1972. He was a staff member at Brunel and continues to be associated there as an Honorary Fellow. He established Macdonald Associates Consultancy (MAC) in 1983. MAC works in partnership with other consultancies, in particular Bioss International Ltd.
Ian is the co-author of Systems Leadership: Creating Positive Organisations which forms the basis of MAC’s work. Ian has developed Systems Leadership Theory (SLT) throughout his career as a set of underlying principles, concepts and tools to help create the conditions where people can work creatively in a just and fair context.
Over the past thirty years, Ian’s consultancy work has included many different countries, cultures and types of organisation from indigenous communities to financial services, from mining to the Church and he continues to work across all sectors. Currently, he is working on a major project in education in far north Queensland, combining SLT with new pedagogical approaches and this has resulted in significant improvements in student outcomes. He is also currently project managing a global reorganisation programme for a multi national mining company.
